5 Things to Bring to Every Balloon Decor Install
Share
As a balloon decorator, preparation is key to making sure your install goes smoothly. Whether you’re setting up for a corporate event, a wedding, or a birthday party, there are a few essential items you should always bring to ensure everything goes off without a hitch. Here are the top 5 things to have on hand for every balloon decor install:
1. Extra Balloons (Especially Replacement Foils)
One of the most important things to bring to every install is extra balloons! You never know when a balloon might pop or deflate during setup, so having replacements on hand can save you from stress. Foil balloons, in particular, are notorious for popping during inflation or getting damaged in transit, so be sure to bring extras—especially of the designs you're using. It’s always better to have too many than to be caught without a replacement!
2. Electric or Manual Pump
If you’re inflating a large number of balloons, a good pump is a must. Depending on your preference and the job requirements, you may want to bring either an electric or manual pump. Electric pumps can save you a lot of time and effort, especially for big events, but don’t forget that manual pumps are great backups in case the electric one fails. Plus, they take up less space! Either way, having a pump is essential for a quick and smooth setup.
3. Tape (Duct, Shipping, and Painters)
You might not think about tape at first, but it’s one of the most useful tools you’ll need during an install. A few types of tape are essential for different purposes:
- Duct Tape: For securing balloons to surfaces, framing, or ensuring your design stays in place.
- Shipping Tape: For attaching things like backdrop fabrics or any small adjustments you need to make.
- Painters Tape: This is great for easy-to-remove fixes that won't damage walls or other surfaces, especially in venues that don’t allow permanent adhesives.
Trust me—having multiple types of tape on hand is a life-saver!
4. Scissors
You’d be surprised how often you’ll need a good pair of scissors. Whether you're trimming fishing line, cutting tape, or fixing up some details on your balloons, scissors are an absolute necessity. They’re small, lightweight, and make it easy to take care of little adjustments as you go. Don’t forget to pack them in your kit, and make sure they’re sharp enough to do the job!
5. Business Cards
This one may seem like a no-brainer, but trust me, you’ll be surprised how often you’ll be asked for business cards during an install. Whether it's event planners, venue coordinators, or even guests, people love to ask where you got your decor from or how they can contact you. Having your business cards handy can help you make a lasting impression and score new clients. Keep them accessible, and don’t be shy about handing them out!
Bonus: Step Stool and 260s
While not always essential, a step stool is a great tool to bring, especially when working with installations that go high up. Whether you're setting up on a stage or installing something that needs height, a step stool will make your job safer and easier. Also, 260s (long, skinny balloons) are incredibly useful for tying, securing, or adding detail to your designs. Whether you’re attaching balloons to a frame or adding twists and turns to an organic garland, having these on hand will help you complete the look!
Double of EVERYTHING
It’s always a good idea to bring extras of everything you might need—extra tape, extra 260s, extra scissors, etc. You never know when something will get misplaced, break, or run out, and having doubles of your essentials ensures that you’re never caught off guard.
Things to Keep on Hand
In addition to these must-bring items, there are a few others you might want to keep in your kit for every install:
- Balloon Kit: Bring supplies like fishing line, Uglu dots, extra parts for stands, 3M hooks, and an inflator.
- Emergency Repair Kit: For those “just-in-case” moments, it’s smart to have extra glue dots, balloon patches, and even clear tape for any last-minute fixes.
Final Thoughts
Being well-prepared for each install is key to making your job easier and delivering excellent results to your clients. By packing all the essentials, you’ll save time, reduce stress, and ensure that your balloon decor looks as perfect as it should. Remember, a little extra preparation goes a long way in this business!
